About the Department

Zoology is intended to develop aptitude for learning about the biology and significance of fauna ranging from single cell to multi-cellular systems. Zoology emphasizes on Faunal diversity, Animal physiology and Evolutionary Biology, also includes Biochemistry, Physiology, Developmental Biology and Molecular Biology....

The department of Zoology is constituent entity of the faculty of science Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College of Women affiliated with Punjab University Chandigarh was established in 2019 with the introduction of B.Sc. medical aiming to provide quality education to students and to contribute the development of animal science and zoological studies.

Department is enriched with faculty with Ph.D. degree having research specialization with Parasitology, Physiology and Reproductive Physiology. Being a part of this illustrious department, we are privileged to invite you explore the webpages, wherein we have showcased the different facets of activities undertaken by our department.

Aims & Objectives

  • The specific learning goals for General Zoology are to provide students with a working knowledge of fundamental principles in zoology that will provide a foundation for their later advanced course work in more specific biological subjects.
  • As General Zoology is a basic course, students will become familiar with animal classification schemes and associated taxonomic group diagnostic characteristics as well as developing an understanding of and ability to apply basic zoological principles.
  • The laboratory and lecture sections of the course are highly integrated and directed toward teaching students the principles of animal evolution, classification, form and function.
