About the Department

History is the study of past events. People know about the past from sources like books, scripts, buildings. Department of History is one of the oldest Departments of the college since its establishment in the year 1992 providing its services to Graduation classes. In Year 1992, Post graduation courses commenced in our reputed institution. ...

Department of History was the first to initiate the post gradation courses. The Department founded History Association in 2016.The motive of the association is to aware students for organizing Seminars, Class discussions and excursions to foster interest of the students in the past and to development an understanding a sense of their cultural heritage in an enjoying way. One of the most prestigious moment for the History Department was when three Girls Stood in the merit list. Amanpreet kaur stood 2nd in December’2016, Surjit kaur stood 4th and Amanpreet kaur stood 9th position in May’2018 merit list. In addition, Surjit kaur was secured her merit positions in all 4th semesters.

Aims & Objectives

The department of History at Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College for women is committed to excellence. Our mission reinforces general educational objectives of critical thinking, reading, writing and communication skills. Our undergraduate program trains students in advanced historical methods of research and analysis and provide in-depth seminars that reflects diverse specializations in the department and to update lecture and class material and to contribute new knowledge.

The path of building the future can be made only through the paths shown by History. To fulfill this, the History department is working on many programs for the future. For this department is to creates awareness about History among the students also aiming is to give the message of dedication, discipline and humanity toward in the society through students. For this department organize debate competitions, speech competition, quiz competition, show the documentaries about the freedom struggle and freedom revolutionaries. In future these activities will continue. With the help of these activities future aim of the department will also be to boost the self confidence and leadership qualities in the students.
