About the Department
The Department of English has been complying with the vision and mission of Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College for Women, Dasuya since its inception in 1992. It adheres to the role of imparting quality education to the women/girls of this kandi (geographically backward) area via supporting a range of abilities, attitudes, and socio-emotional competencies. ...
The department embraces a student-centric approach and has well-qualified teaching faculty having expertise in language and literature. The department favours the practice of close reading and thus inculcates in students habits such as effective communication and writing skills via organizing seminars, extension lectures, group discussions, and paper presentations. The Department of English is certain of interdisciplinary interactions and curriculum development and to nourish this vision we have started “Club Bibliosmia” (a literary club) in collaboration with the Department of Punjabi and the Department of Hindi. The department has been satisfactorily bolstering with other disciplines—Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Computer Applications—for teaching Panjab University’s courses. By stepping through the door of the department, one steps into the world of literature and gets transformed for ever and ever.
Aims & Objectives
- To develop students' proficiency in language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
- To enhance Students knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and sentence structures.
- Enable students to effectively communication in English, understand spoken and written texts and express their thoughts and idea accurately.
- To enable students to use the English language correctly and appropriately in various contexts, demonstrating a solid understanding of language rules and structures.
- To encourage students to think critically, analyze texts, and express their opinions.
- To incorporate digital tools and resources in English language instruction.
- To familiarize students with digital literacy skills, such as navigating online platforms, evaluating digital sources, and using technology for language learning, communication, and creativity.
- To stimulate students’ creativity and imagination.
- To equip students with effective strategies and techniques for language learning and self-improvement.
